Christmas is a time for reflection

We are coming up to one of my favorite times of the year-Christmas. What I enjoy the most about Christmas is the amount of family time that we all get. I am blessed to have both of my children, their spouses, and my two grandchildren living so close to us. Football Sunday’s at Branden’s house is something that Peggy and I look forward to every Sunday from September through Superbowl Sunday. Having time to play with Garrett, whether we are wrestling, playing car wash or something else is really enjoyable. Payton is so precious, and is changing fast as babies generally do at that young age. It is nice to be able to see her often and hold her while relaxing watching football.

We have the Big Texas Toy Run this Sunday, and while it will be cold, thinking of the kids that benefit from this enormous event helps to put the cold in its proper perspective. You do not always have to give donations to make a difference in someone’s life. This happened at Starbucks in the local area this month. The guy in line bought the drink for the person behind him, and it stimulated a chain reaction of kindness for quite a while that morning. Imagine the smiles that this simple act brought to everyone in that line that morning. Talk with someone you generally do not talk to. Open a door for someone. Simple acts of kind humanity.

Make sure to take some time this Christmas to reflect on what is important in your life. Family, friends, your health, employment; whatever you value the most. Chances are you will rediscover those things that matter, and make them even more of your focus over the holidays.
