Monday, December 3rd, 2007Our First Toy Run 2007
Monday, December 3rd, 2007Well we participated in our first toy run this Christmas Season, and it was incredible. There were about 1,300 motorcycles that participated in the Lewisville Toy Run to bring toys to those children not fortunate enough to receive them otherwise. We had the great opportunity to have Cody Howard, the son of a friend of ours, ride on the back of my bike. It was his first Toy Run ride as well.
We got there very early (900am) because Peggy wanted to make sure that she got the participation T-shirt. We did not leave the dealership parking lot until 1200 noon, so we had a lot of time to socialize. Once we got underway, the parade of bikes was led by a Lewisville Fire Engine, and the police closed of Interstate 35E to allow us to ride with absolutely no traffic. It was an incredible site to see so many bikes riding down a deserted highway, side-by-side. As we rode, people were stopped along side of the highway to wave at all of us. After about 8 miles on the highway, we exited to ride through some neighborhoods for another 5 miles or so, until we ended up at Old Town Lewisville. It was the first time I got to ride through red lights and stop signs:) Hooters was kind enough to feed all of us at the end of the parade.
We had a blast, and knowing that we were helping kids to enjoy a better Christmas was the icing on the cake. We have two more toy runs this month; one for our charity, the Cumberland House, and the big DFW Toy Run on the 16th. Last year this big event had 42,000 bikes that participated in the event. Should lots of fun. Be sue to check out the pictures of the Lewisville Toy Run at http://www.bertrwilliams.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3190.
