Well, I just arrived back from an autoimmunity conference held in Rio de Janeiro, and am a bit jet lagged. It is such a beautiful country it is hard to remember that this city is very dangerous. Not where I stayed, or most of the tourist areas, but you have to be careful.
I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel right off a smaller beach. It was a taxi ride to Ipanema Beach and the famous Copacabana Beach, but alas, I only rode by them. The typical Brazilian swim suit for the woman are very small. I think I saw more thongs or close to that than anywhere else in the world. Bikinis as we would call them were very rare, and were generally worn by foreign tourists.
The conference was a great success, and my talk went very well according to my colleagues. The days were long with lectures starting at 800 am every morning (even Sunday), and generally did not finish until 1130 pm every night after late dinners. I am tired.
Check out the pics in the gallery. I wish that I could have gotten some pics of the hang gliders coming off the mountain and landing on the beach, but I did not get them. It was a fabulous sight.
